The All-new new-gen Lexus ES, now in its 8th-gen, was introduced globally in April last year, and now Lexus India has announced the launch, launching the new ES in India on 20th March, 2026; this midsize luxury sedan is set to rival popular options like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series LWB, and Audi A4, while offering advanced hybrid powertrains and even hinting at a fully electric variant coming later, so if you check the early details, it’s clear Lexus is positioning the ES as a smarter and more future-ready alternative in the premium sedan segment.

    Striking Design and Aerodynamic Refinement

With the 8th-gen Lexus ES, the brand has introduced a range of striking design elements that show a clear intent to go beyond convention and create something truly distinctive and futuristic. From my experience observing modern luxury car trends, the focus here is not only style but also purpose. Some standout features include sharp bends and creases on the bonnet, giving the luxury sedan an exclusive profile, while the overall design also works to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

At the front, you immediately notice horizontally positioned L-shaped LED DRLs, a concealed design for the headlamps, and diamond-shaped elements inside the lower grille, which together form important key features of the new Lexus ES.

    Bold Grille and Futuristic Profile

Another major change is the closed-off grille replacing the signature spindle grille with vertical fins, a design approach clearly tilted toward a bold and futuristic design language. In my view, this direction feels natural because it is closely linked to the fully electric powertrain appearing for the first time in the 8th-gen avatar. From the side, the side profile looks quite alluring, highlighted by a distinctive L-shaped trim in a gloss black finish. Other key highlights include a sloping roofline, prominent shoulder line, flush door handles, and circular wheel arches, giving the new Lexus ES a sleek and modern road presence.

    Premium Wheels and Rear Styling

The car also rides on a fresh set of alloy wheels paired with low-profile tyres, which further enhance its premium stance. At the rear, the styling continues with sleek tail lamps in a connected format, illuminated LEXUS lettering, and L-shaped elements placed on the edges with a chrome finish. When seen together, these details create a balanced look that strengthens the futuristic identity Lexus is shaping with this generation of the ES.

    Smart and Comfortable Interior

The new-gen Lexus ES comes with a minimalist design that focuses on eliminating clutter and creating a clear separation between the driver and front passenger areas. Unlike the previous model, which relied on physical buttons, this sedan uses touch controls while keeping physical controls on the steering wheel for ease of use and practicality. A raised central console adds to the premium feel, while key highlights include a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, giving the cabin a modern and intuitive layout.

Comfort and technology are enhanced with powered front seats with memory function, a reclining rear seats, and an electrochromic panoramic glass roof. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the Mark Levinson sound system and Boss mode. Safety and convenience come from a comprehensive range of ADAS features, while NVH levels are reduced with advanced sound-insulating glass and improved door sealing. The steering wheel now features LEXUS lettering instead of the old ‘L’ emblem, giving the interior a refreshed and sophisticated identity.

    Efficient and Powerful Powertrains

The new Lexus ES comes to global markets with multiple powertrain options, including hybrid and pure EV choices. The petrol hybrid powertrain for the new ES 300h offers a 197 hp 2.0-litre and a 201 hp 2.5-litre setup, while the higher-spec 350h uses the 2.5-litre engine, tuned to deliver 247 hp of peak power. All hybrid versions come with an e-CVT transmission and are available in FWD and AWD layouts, providing smooth performance with efficiency in mind.

For pure electric versions, the 224 hp 350e variant comes in FWD format with a single motor and a range of 685 km as per CLTC standards, reaching 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The 343 hp 550e variant features AWD with dual motors, travels 610 km on a full charge, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. From my experience reviewing modern EVs and hybrids, these options make the new Lexus ES versatile for both city driving and long-distance journeys while keeping performance and efficiency well balanced.
