The Jetour T2 i-DM is a 5-seater SUV, 4.7-meter long, locally assembled, and could be launched at a starting price of around Rs 45 lakh.

The JSW group is actively working on plans to launch its own standalone car brand in India. Even while keeping a joint venture with SAIC-owned MG Motor, these ambitions are being pursued through a separate entity, JSW Motors Limited, which will introduce the newest car brand once launched.

After several discussions with multiple carmakers, JSW is ready to start its independent automotive journey in India in association with China-based Chery Automobile. The first car from this partnership is expected to be the Chery Jetour T2 i-DM, which will be sold under an exclusive JSW brand name. These developments and details show how carefully JSW is shaping its new entry, making it a highly anticipated launch.

    Jetour T2 i-DM – Market Positioning

Since 2018, Jetour, a premium brand of Chery Automobile, has focused on SUVs and crossovers, offering models that blend space and style. The Jetour T2 stands out as a spacious SUV with design cues inspired by the Land Rover Defender, available with both petrol powertrain and PHEV version options. The Jetour T2 i-DM, sold as the first JSW SUV in India, marks an important step in introducing advanced and versatile vehicles to the market.

JSW is introducing the PHEV version of the Jetour T2 in India as a premium offering, taking a key role in shaping the new JSW car brand. The decision to prioritize the PHEV version over the ICE version reflects careful strategic market positioning, ensuring the brand appeals to modern, eco-conscious buyers.

In India, PHEV offerings are still limited, especially in the mainstream segment, with most options found in the luxury segment. The Jetour T2 i-DM, expected to be priced at around Rs 45 lakh, stands out as the most affordable and only one of its kind in this price range, which ensures it will attract buyers looking for a practical yet advanced PHEV experience.

The Jetour T2 i-DM ensures that JSW avoids any direct conflict with existing cars from JSW MG Motor India. The strategy is expected to continue with Chery cars that may be launched in India under the JSW badge in the future. By keeping distinct product lines, both brands can stay healthy and profitable. JSW is currently in talks with SAIC for a majority stake, securing a stronger position in the market.

    Jetour T2 i-DM – Production and Launch

The Jetour T2 i-DM will be locally assembled at JSW’s upcoming greenfield production facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This SUV is expected to be available for sale around the festive season in the third quarter of CY2026. Unlike the JSW partnership with MG Motor, the association with Chery focuses on technology transfer, with all rights to the new car brand being held exclusively by JSW.

The Jetour T2 i-DM is a SUV built on a monocoque frame with a robust, boxy profile. It measures 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,875 mm tall, with a wheelbase 2,800 mm. The 5-seat layout ensures comfort for all passengers, while its 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain produces 156 PS and 220 Nm of torque, combining practicality with strong performance.

The Jetour T2 i-DM SUV comes with a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that is optimized for hybrid efficiency, allowing smooth switching between electric mode, hybrid mode, and engine mode. Both FWD and AWD options are available across international markets. It features a 26.7 kWh battery pack, giving a pure electric cruising range of 130 km (NEDC), while a 30%-80% charge can be completed in just 30 minutes using a fast charger.
