The Skoda Kylaq hit the market in December 2025 and immediately became a top seller in India. In its first year, it recorded 46,872 units in total retail sales for 2025. The demand was so high that Skoda produced 50,000 units of this sub-compact SUV within just over a year.

This success made the Kylaq a key contributor to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s overall growth, which jumped 36% year-over-year (YoY) in 2025. The Group achieved this by expanding (enhancing the scale) its operations in India and increasing how much it makes locally (localisation levels).

Building on Trust: Operations and Strategy

Reaching that 50,000‑unit milestone for the Kylaq wasn’t just a number; as Piyush Arora, the MD & CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India said, it reflects the deep trust and genuine affection customers have shown for this product. Having seen many models come and go, I find this powerful validation particularly significant because the car is built on the proven MQB‑A0‑IN platform. The Kylaq’s success proves that vehicles designed in India, for India and the world, truly continue to earn widespread admiration and confidence from customers both domestically and globally.

To support this momentum for the Kylaq, the parent company Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) made decisive moves behind the scenes. They increased the production capacity at their Chakan facility by 30 percent and enhanced collaboration with domestic suppliers to achieve greater localisation. This strategic move perfectly aligns with Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s broader strategy to support the Make in India initiative. It clearly shows the Group’s focus on strengthening core local competencies like engineering capabilities and sourcing efficiency, which is a smart, sustainable way to build for the future.

    Updated Pricing and Powertrain

This recent development comes shortly after Skoda introduced two new variants to the Kylaq lineup: the Classic+ and Prestige+, priced at ₹8.25 lakh and ₹11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. Following that update, the Skoda Kylaq is now available in a broader range of six trims across eleven price points. However, buyers should note a recent price hike, affecting all variants except the base Classic trim.

The Signature MT, Signature AT, Signature+ MT, and Signature+ AT variants are now priced ₹33,000 higher, while the Prestige MT and Prestige AT versions have seen a price increase of ₹24,000 each. Under the hood, powering the SUV (note: the prompt mentions Kushaq, but for the Kylaq topic, we refer to its expected 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine) is a capable motor that pushes out 114 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque, paired with the buyer’s choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
