Tata Motors started the year 2026 on a high note, with the month of January proving to be a significant milestone. The company recorded its highest-ever total monthly sales of 71,066 units, which represents a massive 47.1% growth over the previous year. Digging deeper, the domestic sales performance was equally strong, stood at 70,222 units compared to 48,076 units in January 2025, marking a robust 46.1% YOY growth. Key models like the Nexon and Punch contributed heavily, each registering their best-ever monthly sales figures to drive this outstanding result.
Record Exports and Unmatched EV Performance
Beyond the domestic numbers, Tata Motors also showed explosive growth internationally. The company posted export sales of 844 units, a huge jump up from 240 units in January 2025, registering a staggering 251.7% YOY growth. This reinforces its position as a formidable Indian carmaker on the global stage.
The real story, however, is its undisputed leadership in electric vehicles. As the leading EV manufacturer in the Indian market, it saw a phenomenal 72.7% growth in electric vehicle sales, climbing from 5,240 units in January 2025 to 9,052 units in January 2026. The Nexon, the brand’s top performer with over 23,000 units in the bag, was central to this. This compact SUV achieved its best-ever monthly sales that month, a feat that also helped it cross the prestigious 10 lakh milestone in cumulative sales, a testament to its enduring popularity.

Model-Wise Milestones and Contributions
It wasn’t just the Nexon setting records. The Tata Punch had its strongest-ever monthly sales of over 19,000 units, and it crossed a major cumulative sales milestone of 7 lakh units in just 4 years and 3 months, a pace the company claims is the fastest in the industry. Similarly, the brand’s most affordable offering, the Tiago, joined the bandwagon, also crossed the 7 lakh units cumulative mark. Furthermore, the overall sales growth was supported by fresh launches, including the new Sierra and the updated petrol-powered Harrier and Safari, which all contributed significantly to the mix.

New Models and Electric Updates on the Horizon
The momentum for Tata Motors is being fueled by exciting new products. The launch of the Tata Sierra in December 2025 created a huge buzz in the Indian automotive market, and its deliveries commenced in January 2026. The company says production of this popular mid-size SUV is being ramped up progressively to meet the exceptional customer demand. And the electrification continues—they are ready to launch the Sierra EV in the coming weeks, while the Punch EV facelift and Tiago EV facelift are also on the cards for this year.
Looking further ahead, the lineup will keep evolving. The best-selling Nexon is set to receive its next-generation model, most probably by late 2026 or early 2027. Around the same timeline, the much-awaited Avinya nameplate—expected to be a game-changing electric vehicle—is also due for its launch, promising to bring a new level of technology and design to the brand.
