The Yamaha EC-06 uses an electric motor called an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM). This motor is paired with a fixed 4 kWh battery pack. This setup is good for producing around 9 hp of power and 26 Nm of pulling force.

India Yamaha Motor has officially announced its new electric two-wheeler for the domestic market with the introduction of the EC-06. Priced at Rs. 1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi), this electric scooter heralds Yamaha’s formal entry into the country’s fast-evolving electric mobility space. It’s a significant moment, but availability will be careful at first. Sales will be initially limited to select cities and will be routed exclusively through Yamaha’s Blue Square premium dealerships, which is a smart move to control the initial brand experience.

    Inside Yamaha’s New City Scooter

    Design & Purpose

    Yamaha EC-06

The EC-06 is clearly positioned as a city-based electric scooter, focussing squarely on daily commuting needs. In terms of style, it’s offered in a single Bluish White exterior shade and is developed as a close associate to the River Indie. Its design features, like a horizontally oriented core structure, upright proportions, and a muscular stance, are cleverly intended to aid stability and ease of use in congested urban environments.

    Performance & Range

The EC-06 is powered by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) along with a fixed 4 kWh battery pack. This setup delivers a peak output of 6.7 kW (9 hp) and a maximum torque of 26 Nm, enabling a claimed top speed of 79 kmph. More importantly, Yamaha has certified a riding range of 169 kilometres on a single charge, making it one of the standout long range offerings in its segment.

    Charging, Warranty & Durability

Charging the electric scooter is convenient, thanks to its compatibility with standard household power sockets. A full charge requires approximately eight hours. The battery is covered by a solid warranty of three years or 30,000 kilometres, whichever comes earlier. To enhance overall dubility, Yamaha has provided a high IP67 certification for the core motor and battery pack, while the remaining electronic components are rated at IP65 for excellent dust and water resistance.

    Ride Modes & Handling

To match different needs, the scooter offers three selectable riding modes – Eco, Standard, and Power – allowing riders to prioritise range or performance based on their usage conditions. A helpful Reverse Mode is also integrated to assist with tricky low-speed manoeuvring. For handling bumps, the Suspension duties are capably handled by telescopic forks with hydraulic dampers at the front and a coil spring unit at the rear.

    Tech & Everyday Usability

The Yamaha EC-06 is well-equipped for daily use. Its Braking hardware consists of 200 mm disc brakes at both ends, supported by a Combi Brake System for balanced stopping power. Rider information is clearly displayed on a colour LCD screen that presents essential data like speed, battery status, ride mode, and connectivity-related data. Full LED lighting is standard for the headlamp and tail lamp, and smart connectivity features are enabled through the Yamaha Motor Connect R application, which provides access to vehicle-related data and smart functions. Practicality is also well addressed with a generous 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, suitable for carrying everyday items.

    The Bigger Picture

Speaking on the new launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, said the EC-06 marks an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility. He noted that as India accelerates its transition toward a carbon-neutral future under the government’s visionary leadership, Yamaha is proud to support this national agenda through high-quality electric innovation. The scooter is Designed for everyday commuting and balances efficiency with performance, offering an impressive range and intuitive features.
