The Suzuki Across stands out because it’s built on a strong partnership. It uses Toyota’s excellent new generation plug-in hybrid system. This smart setup combines a powerful 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. The result is a capable plug-in hybrid that can handle daily drives largely on electric power.

The 2026 Suzuki Across: More Than a Toyota Twin

For the 2026 model, the refreshed Across proves this Suzuki and Toyota partnership is more than just badge-engineering. While it’s derived from the Toyota RAV4 and carries forward shared engineering bits, Suzuki has put its own stamp on this latest iteration. From the moment it broken covers, you can see they’ve focused on introducing unique styling elements and an upgraded cabin, while also giving enhanced safety bits serious attention. It’s a smart evolution that continues the successful plug-in hybrid configuration in a more distinctive SUV package.

    A Smarter Hybrid Heart

Sitting at the heart of this SUV is where the Toyota influence shines brightest. The new generation plug-in hybrid system is a sophisticated piece of engineering. It combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine—delivering 141 hp at 4,800 rpm and 226 Nm of torque at 3,200 rpm—with a clever dual-injection setup. What’s impressive in practice is how the powertrain intelligently alternates between port and direct fuel injection. Having tested systems like this, that seamless switching is key to maximise efficiency across all sorts of varying driving conditions, from stop-start traffic to highway cruising.

    Performance Meets Advanced Safety

Supporting the petrol engine are two electric motors that work together to contribute significantly. They don’t just add shove; their real-world benefit is in creating better performance through smoother power delivery, which genuinely helping improve overall fuel economy in daily use. But Suzuki didn’t stop at the powertrain. On the safety front, they’ve equipped the Across with a truly comprehensive suite of tech. The advanced driver assistance systems are top-tier, using a millimetre wave radar working alongside a monocular camera. This fusion enables a very capable Pre-Collision System that can detect not just vehicles, but also pedestrians and cyclists, providing a much wider safety net in urban environments.

Inside the Suzuki Across: Tech That Watches Your Back

The safety system in the Across isn’t just a checklist; it’s a true co-pilot. It constantly provides visual and audible alerts, and is ready to intervene with braking or subtle steering support if required. From my time behind the wheel, features like the lane departure alert with steering correction and automatic emergency braking feel reassuringly precise.

The suite goes further with lane-change assist, proactive driving assist, and a clever front cross-traffic alert that’s saved me in tight parking lots. It even keeps an eye on you with driver fatigue monitoring. One of the most useful tools is the 360-degree camera system, offering a crystal-clear 3D surround view that makes maneuvering this SUV a breeze.

    Suzuki Across

Step inside and you’ll immediately notice the thoughtful layout. Suzuki gets the need for a clean, modern cabin, and they’ve achieved it with what’s called the “island architecture”. The idea is simple: all controls and displays are grouped into clearly separated zones, making everything easier to access and operate without distraction.

The dashboard is dominated by two brilliant screens: a sharp 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This digital display is fully customised to your preference, with multiple layouts including a superb navigation-focussed mode and an eco-themed view to track your efficient driving.

Suzuki Across: Modern Tech & Bold Style

Getting into the new Across, you’re greeted by some clever tech. For the first time, it introduces a head-up display, which is a genuine game-changer on longer drives. It projects essential driving data like your speed and turn-by-turn navigation guidance directly onto the windshield, floating at a virtual distance of roughly 13 to 20 feet so your eyes barely have to refocus. The equipment list is well-considered too, including a wireless charging pad and a generous five USB-C ports to keep everyone’s devices powered up.

Outside, the Suzuki Across presents a much more confident face. The most noticeable element is its distinctive front grille design, which is accompanied by a sculpted bumper and sharp, strong character lines. Chunky wheel arch cladding and large alloy wheels significantly add to its rugged stance. For consumers, personalization is easy as they can choose from a four-color palette of exterior shades: the understated Massive Grey Metallic, the sophisticated Ever Rest Metallic, the classic Super White, and the sleek Attitude Black Metallic.
