Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 has been unveiled in both SUV and Coupe forms, showcasing a 3-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine with mild hybrid assist. This model is a key part of Mercedes-Benz’s refreshed product strategy, with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 being the first of the upcoming inline six-cylinder models focused on enhancing six-cylinder performance. According to AMG boss Michael Schiebe, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 signals the start of a new lineup, with more models arriving, including the 2027 model year release.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 is powered by a reworked 3.0-litre inline six engine that delivers an impressive 443 hp and 600 Nm of torque. With the overboost function, the torque briefly rises to 640 Nm, offering a boost in power for those exhilarating drives. This performance is backed by various updates like a new cylinder head, intake camshaft, and a larger intake.

Additionally, a redesigned intercooler and fresh exhaust system improve both the performance and efficiency of the engine. The power is managed through a nine-speed automatic gearbox, with an electronic limited-slip differential distributing the torque to all four wheels. Mercedes claims a 0-60 mph time of just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 167 mph, making it a true powerhouse on the road.

Beyond just raw speed, the AMG GLC 53 offers a refined driving experience with an emphasis on the acoustic character of the engine. The sound is sharper and more engaging, complete with pops and crackles that add excitement. While pricing details for the Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 remain under wraps, it is confirmed that the GLC 53 4MATIC+ will make its debut in Australia in the final quarter of the year. The India launch is also eagerly anticipated but is still under wraps, and it’s unclear whether the GLC 53 will replace the four-cylinder GLC 43 or the plug-in hybrid GLC 63. With its aggressive styling and performance, the GLC 53 is set to be a strong contender in the luxury SUV market.
