When I first heard that Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Ola Electric, had announced an upgrade programme for owners of Gen 1 and Gen 2 scooters and bikes, I immediately felt excited for customers in Bengaluru. Through his personal social media platform, he shared that those who are interested in the newer Gen 3 models would be the first to gain the advantage of this scheme starting this weekend.

While pricing, details, and other information about when, where, how, and how it will be offered are yet to be fully announced, it is clear that Ola is taking a proactive approach to reward its loyal users. From my experience following Electric mobility trends, this upgrade strategy not only excites owners but also sets a benchmark for how scooters and bikes can evolve seamlessly with newer technology.

    Model and Battery Upgrade

Building on the excitement around the Gen 3 models, Aggarwal confirmed that the upgrade scheme now covers not only the S1 Pro, S1 Pro+, and S1X electric scooters, but also the Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster X+ motorcycles. From my experience exploring Ola’s Electric lineup, what makes this move particularly interesting is the inclusion of variants with in-house 4680 Bharat cell batteries, which promise enhanced performance and reliability. This approach ensures that both scooters and motorcycles benefit from cutting-edge Electric technology, giving owners a clear incentive to participate in the upgrade programme.

    Pricing and Market Insight

Looking closely at the Gen 3 models, the current prices start from ₹82,999 ex-showroom for the S1 X 2kWh variant, including subsidy, charger, and Move OS+ lifetime subscription, while the Roadster X+ 9.1kWh goes up to ₹1,89,999. These Ola Electric scooter buyers also benefit from the Government of India’s PM E-Drive production-linked incentive scheme, reducing the end-purchase price.

From observing the electric market, Ola Electric, once the leader, saw its share decline from 36.7 percent in 2024 to 16.1 percent in 2025, with annual sales of only 1,96,767 units in the calendar year, while competitors like TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy improved their positions. For someone following the Ola journey, these numbers reflect both the challenge and the potential for growth in the electric scooter market.

    Customer Service and Operational Update

During a recent earnings call, Ola Electric’s CFO, Deepak Rastogi, admitted that customer trust has suffered due to execution gaps in service and complaints, with slow turnaround time being a major issue. Aggarwal also shared a shareholders letter on social media on February 13, noting that Q3 FY26 marks a structural reset and highlighting service backlogs as the main challenge. He mentioned that backlog reduction has reached 50 percent, and nearly 80 percent of requests are now completed within a day.

To improve efficiency, Ola Electric is cutting operating costs across its business and has announced plans to shrink its offline retail footprint to 550 locations in India, down from around 4,000 stores at its peak, showing a focused approach to streamline operations and strengthen customer trust.
