Mahindra has just launched the Mahindra XEV 9S in India, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicles in the country. With a price tag starting at Rs 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom), this seven-seater SUV is built on the advanced INGLO platform, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation. The Mahindra XEV 9S model has been widely praised for its design and impressive features, especially the adaptive suspension system.

However, in response to feedback, Mahindra introduced a new Custom drive mode that allows drivers to individually adjust the suspension and steering for a more personalized driving experience. This control over how the SUV behaves on the road gives drivers more flexibility, making the Mahindra XEV 9S stand out in the crowded electric vehicle market. By positioning the Mahindra XEV 9S as a versatile, all-electric family vehicle, Mahindra has shown their focus on creating vehicles that combine performance, comfort, and cutting-edge technology.

Mahindra XEV 9S: Custom Drive Mode – A New Level of Control

The Custom mode in the Mahindra XEV 9S gives owners the ability to fine-tune the SUV’s character by adjusting key systems like the suspension, steering, and powertrain. Instead of being locked into preset configurations, drivers can now mix and match different attributes to suit their driving needs. For example, the suspension can be stiffened for enhanced stability, while the steering can remain more relaxed for everyday comfort. This flexibility makes the driving experience more personal and adaptable to different road conditions.

Earlier reviews of the adaptive suspension (available only on higher trims) pointed out that it felt too soft, causing excessive vertical movement on uneven roads. To fix this, the Race mode provided firmer damping, but it also altered throttle response and regenerative braking, making it unsuitable for daily use. The Custom mode successfully bridges this gap by offering a firmer suspension without sacrificing efficiency or comfort, making it the perfect solution for everyday driving needs.

Mahindra XEV 9S: A Step Ahead with Custom Mode

The Mahindra XEV 9S now comes with the Custom mode as standard on all newly manufactured units that are equipped with adaptive dampers. This feature is currently exclusive to the Pack Three trims, which also include the advanced adaptive suspension. On the other hand, the lower Pack One and Pack Two trims come with passive dampers and don’t offer the same level of adjustability.

The Custom option joins several other driving modes, including Default, Everyday, Range, and Race modes, giving drivers the flexibility to adjust the vehicle for different driving conditions. Whether it’s for maximizing efficiency, enjoying spirited performance, or finding the right balance between comfort and control, the Custom mode provides an enhanced driving experience.

For customers who already own the Pack Three variant, Mahindra plans to roll out the Custom mode through an over-the-air software update or via dealership support. This ensures that early adopters can benefit from the latest improvements and enjoy the new level of control and flexibility without needing to buy a new unit.
