Hyundai started January 2026 with a record-breaking performance. The Korean carmaker, through Hyundai Motor India Limited, achieved its highest-ever monthly numbers. It sold 59,107 units in the domestic market, marking a 9.5% YOY growth. Adding export numbers of 14,030 units, the total monthly sales reached 71,173 units. This resulted in a robust 11.5% YOY growth for its total sales, showing a very strong start to the year.
Key Exporters and the Unbeatable Creta
A closer look at the sales numbers reveals which models are powering Hyundai’s success. The company’s impressive 20.9% YOY growth in exports, with a total of 14,030 units, was led by specific stars. The Hyundai Venue and Aura were at the forefront, each hitting their highest-ever numbers at 12,413 units and 7,978 units, respectively. This performance from a top manufacturer in India is reflecting a consistent demand in both domestic and global markets.
However, the Creta is still the clear leader in the showroom. It has consistently been the top-selling nameplate for the brand, and anyone who’s reviewed it knows why. Its success comes down to a strong powertrain package, genuinely segment-leading features, and an overall appeal that just works perfectly in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
What’s Next for Hyundai in India
Looking ahead, Hyundai’s strategy is a mix of refreshing its popular models and introducing completely new ones. Among its current high-selling cars like the Exter, i20, and Grand i10 Nios, we already know upcoming products like the Exter facelift and Verna facelift are on the cards for this year. Furthermore, the Bayon, a compact crossover sold abroad, will likely hit the Indian shores by the end of this year, neatly positioned between the Exter and Venue.
But the bigger story is the long-term plan. The Korean carmaker has committed to launching eight new hybrid models in the domestic market by FY2030, with the majority being SUVs. While the third-generation Creta is under development and will go on sale sometime next year, the real intrigue is in electric vehicles. A new compact electric SUV is also set to be launched next year, which will likely be based on the Inster EV already sold in international markets.

MD & CEO Tarun Garg’s Take
In leadership communications, it’s easy to tell how confident someone is, and Tarun Garg, the MD & CEO of Hyundai Motor India (HMIL), was naturally very proud. He called January 2026 a defining chapter in the company’s journey, and the numbers back him up.
He highlighted achieving their highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 59,107 units and their highest-ever total sales of 73,137 units, which together represent a strong 11.5% year-on-year growth. For Garg, this sales milestone isn’t just a number; it reflects the brand’s leadership and the collective strength of their people, partners and customers. He also pointed to the remarkable 20.9% growth in exports to 14,030 units as proof that the trust the Hyundai brand inspires extends firmly into global markets.
