From what I’ve seen closely in the auto space, JSW MG Motor is moving with unusual speed, and the recent media reports clearly reflect that shift. The company’s MG line-up in India is set to grow from six vehicles to over ten in a short span of less than two years, as it prepares to initiate a major new product offensive soon.
A new report from The Economic Times says the brand has lined up around six models for launch by next year, and most will arrive this year itself, including four SUVs this year. Just last year, it added two new models, the Cyberster and M9, effectively expanding its portfolio to six cars, while also rolled out a second facelift of the Hector, reinforcing its intent to dominate with fresh choices and sharper positioning in every key segment.

Expanding Strategy with New Launches
A recent Autocar India report says JSW MG Motor plans to launch a new model codenamed 520 in electric and plug-in hybrid variants by October, making it two of the three launches scheduled this calendar year. From my experience tracking product cycles, this kind of timing shows sharp intent. The model is likely an adapted version of the Wuling Starlight 560, a low-cost SUV developed by GM-SAIC-Wuling and marketed internationally as the Wuling Eksion, which gives the company a smart way to balance pricing and technology.

At the same time, the first launch this year is the Majestor, a facelifted version of the Gloster. The company recently conducted its media drive and opened pre-bookings, and it plans to announce the prices in April and commence deliveries in May, a move that signals clear execution discipline from JSW MG Motor.

Plug-in Hybrid Technology and Performance
In China, the plug-in hybrid variant employs a 105 hp and 130 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 194 hp and 230 Nm permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). An e-CVT sends drive to the wheels, while a 20.5 kWh LFP battery pack powers the PMSM and delivers a zero-emission range of 125 kilometres as per CLTC. The plug-in hybrid variant has a top speed of 170 km/h, making it suitable for daily and highway driving alike.

Electric Variant and Dimensions
The electric variant uses a lower-output PMSM with 134 hp and 200 Nm of torque, along with a larger 56.7 kWh LFP battery pack. It can travel up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, as rated by CLTC, and the electric variant maxes out at 160 km/h, though its real strength lies in efficiency and smooth delivery.

The Wuling Starlight 560 measures 4,745 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall, supported by a 2,810 mm wheelbase, making it comparable to the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is available in 5- and 7-seat versions, and JSW MG Motor may offer both versions to give customers greater flexibility between efficiency and space, which I’ve seen become a key purchase factor in this segment.
Production Expansion and Localisation
Preparing for the expansion of its vehicle line-up, JSW MG Motor is planning to expand production capacity from 1.2 lakh units to about 3 lakh units. It will also produce more parts locally to lower production costs and make its vehicles more affordable. The company is eyeing an investment of 4,000-5,000 crore rupees in new products, capacity expansion, and more localisation, reflecting a serious long-term commitment to scale.
