JSW Motors Brings Jetour T2 Hybrid SUV to India: Key Details

The Jetour T2 SUV will debut in India this year as the first car from JSW Motors, the passenger mobility arm of the JSW Group, and it will arrive rebadged under JSW, marking a strategic and carefully planned market entry.

JSW Group is gearing up for a major move as JSW Motors Limited, its passenger mobility arm, prepares to debut its first automobile in India this year, and from my experience tracking industry rollouts, this kind of entry is usually well planned. According to Autocar India, the maiden product will be the Jetour T2 SUV, which will arrive carrying JSW’s own badge and model name, rather than Jetour branding, signaling a clear identity shift for the market.

The launch clearly marks JSW’s ambition to establish itself as a standalone carmaker, separate from its joint venture with MG Motor India under MG-JSW, and from my industry exposure, this kind of reset often signals long-term planning. The T2 SUV is expected to be assembled at the company’s upcoming greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, with market entry planned for the third quarter of 2026, a timeline that aligns well with similar structured rollouts I’ve seen before.

From what I’ve seen tracking global models, JSW Motors has chosen a different path for India, even though the Jetour T2 is available globally with pure ICE powertrains. Staying true to its vision of sustainable mobility, the company will introduce the Jetour T2 i-DM, a PHEV equipped with a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid system that is offered internationally in both AWD and FWD configurations. While this setup could make its way to Indian showrooms, it remains unclear which variant will be launched, a detail that often stays fluid until late-stage planning.

    Brand Roots and Design Identity

From my time reviewing global SUVs, Jetour has always stood out as a premium brand under Chery Automobile, launched in 2018 and steadily built its reputation around SUVs and crossovers. The T2 is a spacious SUV with clear design inspiration drawn from the iconic Land Rover Defender, giving it a rugged yet premium appeal that I’ve seen resonate well with enthusiasts. While petrol versions continue to be sold overseas, the plug-in hybrid i-DM variant clearly represents the brand’s modern eco-friendly direction, showing how the lineup is evolving without losing its core character.

Having spent time around full-size SUVs, the Jetour T2 i-DM truly stands out for its imposing dimensions, with a length of 4,785 mm, width of 2,006 mm, and height of 1,875 mm, all supported by a generous 2,800 mm wheelbase. Carefully designed with a practical five-seat layout, this SUV ensures ample space and comfort for all occupants, making it feel well balanced for both daily use and long drives.

From my hands-on time reviewing similar SUVs, the T2 i-DM feels well built, as it carries a bold, boxy silhouette that enhances its rugged appeal while still keeping a premium character, thanks to its sturdy monocoque frame. Under the hood, it features a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain that is capable of producing 156 PS and 220 Nm of torque, blending strong performance with everyday efficiency, a balance that experienced drivers quickly notice.
