The stage at EICMA 2025 was set for a major announcement, and Hero MotoCorp did not disappoint. They pulled the covers off Project VxZ, an all-new, ground-up electric bike developed in partnership with Zero Motorcycles. This isn’t just a concept; the fact that they’re already filing patents in India tells me this is a tangible machine, one that signals a bold new direction for the brand.

The moment Hero MotoCorp took the wraps off the Project VxZ at EICMA 2025 in Milan, Italy, wasn’t just another product launch; it was the brand clearly marking its bold entry into the global mass-market electric motorcycle space. Seeing this machine, which was Developed in close collaboration with the US-based experts at Zero Motorcycles, you immediately understand it represents a significant milestone. For this Indian two-wheeler giant, the VxZ is far more than a concept—it’s the key vehicle for its first major ventures into mainstream EV territory.

A Ground-Up Design: Patents Reveal the Ambition

Based on my experience tracking vehicle patents, when a company like Hero filed a design patent in India for the Project VxZ, it was a clear move signalling a serious intent to bring this model to local markets. Interestingly, the patent images themselves confirm a crucial point: the VxZ is not a reworked version of any existing Zero Motorcycles product. Instead, this is an all-new electric bike designed from the ground up, a fact that is underscoring the brand’s deep ambition to create a truly unique identity in the competitive EV segment.

Based on the typical development cycles I’ve seen, while the official launch timeline remains under wraps, strong industry expectations are pointing towards a production-ready version having its global debut at EICMA 2026 in November. This strategic schedule would give Hero MotoCorp ample time to thoroughly refine the prototype, ensuring they can perfectly align the final motorcycle with the specific requirements of both international and domestic markets.

Looking at the leaked patent sketches, the design speaks volumes. This isn’t a timid commuter; the VxZ is clearly a sporty, street-oriented electric motorcycle built with serious production intent. The visual cues confirm it, from the aggressive LED headlamp and LED turn indicators to the performance-focused hardware like upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock suspension. Completing the package are petal disc brakes at both ends, a detail that tells me Hero MotoCorp is prioritizing serious stopping power for this new machine.

Anatomy of a Modern Electric Streetfighter

Diving into the details, the VxZ makes some smart engineering choices, like using a clean and quiet belt drive system instead of a conventional chain. Its semi-faired styling with those aggressive body panels gives it a modern, muscular look that’s full of attitude. The split-seat layout definitely adds to that sporty character, a feeling that continues inside with a fully digital instrument cluster which appears to support multiple ride modes.

At its heart sits a centrally mounted battery pack within a frame designed for everyday usability, while it rolls on a 17-inch front alloy wheel wrapped in a 110/70 section tubeless tyre—all combining to give it that perfect blend of streetfighter stance with subtle sportbike cues.

While Hero MotoCorp hasn’t chosen to disclose any technical specifications for the Project VxZ yet, the available patent images do provide some solid clues. The size and positioning of the battery pack suggest it could be comparable to those found in certain Zero Motorcycles models.

Depending on the final configuration, since Zero’s electric bikes currently claim ranges between 160 km and 275 km, they offer a useful benchmark for our expectations. The big question that remains uncertain is whether Hero will adopt a similar battery chemistry or instead engineer a cost-optimised solution specifically tailored for Indian conditions.
