Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially entered India’s competitive battery electric passenger vehicle space with the high-profile debut of the Urban Cruiser Ebella. This marks a significant move for the brand. Good news for early adopters: Bookings have already commenced, though the official pricing details will be revealed at a later date.
It’s important to note this car is a product of collaboration; it’s Co-developed with Suzuki and is manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s facility in Gujarat. What truly sets it apart is that it’s underpinned by a dedicated electric vehicle architecture, which from an engineering perspective, is the right foundation for a capable and efficient EV.
The Platform, Powertrain, and Practical Specs
At its core, the Ebella is built on the dedicated Heartect-e platform. This smart architecture enables the efficient sharing of critical components like batteries, electronics, and electrical systems across models, which helps optimise both development and production costs. In terms of size, this compact electric SUV measures 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height, all supported by a roomy 2,700 mm wheelbase that promises good interior space.
The electric powertrain lineup is straightforward and practical. It comprises two lithium-iron phosphate battery options: a standard 49 kWh pack and a larger 61 kWh unit. Both variants employ a single electric motor in a front-wheel-drive configuration. The higher capacity 61 kWh battery delivers a healthy 128 kW of power and 189 Nm of torque. Toyota has quoted a standout ARAI-certified driving range of up to 543 km for this version, which is a compelling figure. For charging, Both AC charging setups and modern CCS2 DC fast chargers are compatible, offering flexibility for home and on-the-go charging.

On the outside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella clearly follows Toyota’s contemporary ‘Urban Tech’ styling philosophy. Like its sibling, this SUV maintains a confident, upright stance on the road.

The centerpiece is a dual-screen digital layout, comprising a crisp 10.25-inch instrument cluster paired with a responsive 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional premium amenities are plentiful, including ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, ambient lighting with 12 selectable colours, versatile sliding and reclining rear seats, wireless phone charging, and a rich JBL premium audio system to enhance every drive.

When it comes to protection, this SUV is seriously equipped. It packs seven airbags and a high-tensile body structure for core safety, plus a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be available in an expansive range, with prices probably starting around Rs. 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Alongside the product, Toyota is strengthening its electric ownership ecosystem. The SUV comes with an 8-year battery warranty, Battery-as-a-Service options, and an assured buyback programme.
