In the SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta stayed among the top performers in December 2025, even as Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota HyRyder were in focus, making this an interesting moment to watch.

Looking at SUV sales first, the broader SUVs segment above the sub 4m space, especially the 4.2m–4.4m class, showed strong performance in Dec and December 2025, as year and year-end buying momentum from last month continued to score well on a positive note. From my experience tracking this market, buyer sentiments play an important role, and New entrants clearly helped in boosting demand, with top 3 positions held by Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota HyRyder, all leading models that recorded the highest traction during the period.

    December 2025 SUV Sales

Looking Dec 2025 sales first, the Total SUV segment stood at 48,197 units sold, showing 13.5% YoY growth from 42,458 units in 2024, which means a clear volume increase of 5,739 units. From my market tracking, however, MoM numbers ended lower by 22.1%, relating to a decline of 13,691 units from 61,888 units in Nov post-festive season, a shift I often see once peak buying cools down.

The Hyundai Creta has cemented its position atop the list for a decade, as units grew up to 13,154 in 2025, compared from 12,608, marking 4.33% YoY growth and making it the only model to surpass the 10,000 unit mark above this segment. From my market watch, it also suffered a steep MoM decline to 17,344 units in Nov, yet the brand must now contend with new entrants like Kia Seltos, all-new Tata Sierra, next-gen Renault Duster, and Nissan Tekton, reshaping the past dominance dynamic.

Maruti Grand Vitara sat at No. 2 with steady volumes, showing improved YoY growth of 21.20% to 8,597 units, well over the 7,093 unit mark from 2024, while Currently commanding a 17.95% market share despite a MoM decline of 24.18%. From what I’ve seen tracking this space, it was followed by Toyota HyRyder, which sold 7,022 units last month, posting a sharp 47.21% YoY growth but also a 5.02% MoM dip, highlighting how movement below the Hyundai Creta remains active even when the leader holds firm.

Kia Seltos comes into focus first, showing strong YoY growth of 54.38%, rising to 4,369 units from 2,830, even though its MoM sales have fallen by 30.71%, a pattern I often notice just before fresh demand kicks in. From my market tracking, new-gen deliveries starting this month are expected to bring a boost, while Maruti Victoris, a new entrant, added 6,210 units to the total tally but still faced a steep 49.51% decline, showing how competitive pressure is shaping sales movement under the Hyundai Creta’s watch.

The market dynamics show how rivals moved last month, Honda Elevate, which sold 2,289 units and, along with VW Taigun at 1,778 units, faced a YoY decline, yet their MoM performance ended on a highly positive note, recorded double digit growth, and increased share by several notches. From my tracking, Mahindra BE6 EV also stood out as it accounted for sales of 1,481 units, holding a 3.09% market share, with MoM numbers up by 12.71%, showing how momentum is building under the steady presence of the Hyundai Creta.

Pressure Builds Lower on the Sales Chart

Looking further lower in the sales list, I’ve seen how models like Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq, and MG ZS EV are ranking below the Hyundai Creta, as each suffered a clear decline where Curvv dipped 77.89% YoY to 1,104 units, Kushaq were down 61.14% at 958, and ZS EV fell 41.49% to 502, yet all three gained MoM demand, posting positive results. From what I’ve tracked last month, Tata Sierra also entered the charts with 219 sold, and with deliveries starting this month, brands can expect a boost in coming months, showing how movement continues beneath the segment leader.

The spotlight shifts to Citroen C3 Aircross, which posted the highest YoY growth, with 167 units sold last month, marking a 73.06% rise from 96 units in Dec 2024, although MoM sales fell sharply by 19.71%. From my experience tracking monthly trends, MG Astor dipped to 112 units, relating to a sizeable decline, while Basalt managed 104 units with YoY sales increased by 31.65%, despite a 24.83% de-growth on MoM basis. At the lower end, Mahindra XUV400 saw just 59 units, substantially lower when compared to 1,296 units and 404 units sold in Nov 2025 and earlier periods respectively, showing how uneven momentum remains under the steady presence of the Creta.
